CAPTAIN GRAFFITI 06. 28. 11

A homie asked me if I was selling mouse pads on EBAY? I looked it up and sure enough there was a mouse pad with the piece I did near Panic Zone back ’round 1990.

Turns out the seller wasn’t me, It was CAPTAIN GRAFFITI! He buffed my piece but left the character outlined in buff and all!

He sent me one along with an autographed certificate…… I felt like the roadrunner getting an autograph from the coyote…… thanx Captain Graffiti for trying to keep the city clean and giving us fresh walls to smash.

AND THE WINNER IZZZZZ 06. 24. 11

8 YEARS STRONG and not a mention!

It was brought to my attention that BOBBY HUNDREDS has released his list called “The 50 Greatest Streetwear Brands” for Complex. I am proud to announce that we aren’t onnit…That’s eight years straight now. In Bobby’s defense, he doesn’t consider “DISSIZIT” as a streetwear brand, but that’s ok cuz streetwear died a few years back, and the year before that, and I think the year before that as well. I’m glad FUCT, XLARGE and STUSSY get some shine and I’m proud to say I was a part of all three, FUCT in particular cuz that was Erik and my baby long before folks coined the term “STREETWEAR”.

To claim “GREATEST” is super funny along with the definition of streetwear and I’m sure was no easy task to write about objectively….dang you made it on your own list! Congrats! U should have called it “THE 50 BRANDS THAT BOBBY HUNDREDS JOCK” then u wouldn’t have all those negative comments checking u and people feeling left out. =( If it’s about longevity in the game, we’ve only been pluggin away for 8 years and detest being categorized in general so we understand. We do what we do, we iz what it iz……

…and here all this time, I thought u wanted the BxH X DZT LA HANDS vinyl cuz u liked DISSIZIT. Didn’t know it was cuz you geek out over my boy Hikaru.

Yo Bobby don’t trip. We still got love for u and your crew.

SAD SAD SAD!!! 06. 23. 11

The Brooklyn Museum pulled the plug on an exhibition on the history of graffiti called Art in the Streets. Museum director Arnold L. Lehman blamed “the current financial climate” in a vague press release and a more detailed email to the show’s participants. The show was set to run in Brooklyn from March to October 2012. When it was first put on at Los Angeles’s Museum of Contemporary Art, the coverage of that controversy in the Los Angeles was largely framed in terms of whether it was an invitation for vandalism. But a scandal emerged in artistic circles over whether associate curator Roger Gastman’s commercial interest in street art and graffiti amounted to an improper conflict of interest for a museum exhibition. Mike Boehm wrote in the Los Angeles Times in April: HERE

OG WALL, A BATTLE ROYALE 06. 22. 11

We got asked to smash the OG wall at the MOCA. It was like a battle Royal battling for every sq inch of space while trying not to diss-respect each other, like we had to hold back our punches, hahahaha. King Dream and I were laughing bout the whole concept cuz he said if it really was to be like Belmont Tunnel, we would have gone over the whole wall with a burner and deal with feelings later. We really are trying to look at this show as a positive thing and not shed too much light on all the negativity and bull-shit politics surrounding who got in and who got shine but more as a step forward for the art as a whole…. we niggaz know…… we see u………. with that said, here’s the timelapse of PRIME, WISK, SER and CHUBBS doin their thang…… enjoy.
